Ingredients
For the Steak:
-
2 ribeye steaks (or your preferred cut, 1 inch thick)
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tsp black pepper
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tbsp unsalted butter
For the Cajun Shrimp Sauce:
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
½ lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
-
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
-
1 tbsp unsalted butter
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 cup heavy cream
-
½ cup chicken broth
-
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Steaks
-
Remove the steaks from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to bring them to room temperature.
-
Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
-
Season both sides of the steaks with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Step 2: Sear the Steaks
-
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
-
Once hot, add the steaks and sear for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare (or adjust the cooking time based on preferred doneness).
-
Add butter to the skillet and spoon over the steaks for extra flavor.
-
Transfer steaks to a plate and cover loosely with foil to rest.
Step 3: Prepare the Cajun Shrimp
-
In the same skillet, add olive oil and butter over medium heat.
-
Add shrimp and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning.
-
Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until shrimp is pink and cooked through.
-
Remove shrimp and set aside.
Step 4: Make the Creamy Cajun Sauce
-
In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
-
Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
-
Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
-
Add Parmesan cheese and whisk until melted and smooth.
-
Squeeze in lemon juice and adjust seasoning with extra Cajun spice, salt, and pepper as desired.
Step 5: Combine and Serve
-
Return the shrimp to the skillet and simmer for 1-2 minutes to warm through.
-
Slice the steaks against the grain and arrange on serving plates.
-
Spoon the creamy Cajun shrimp sauce over the steaks.
-
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
-
Room Temperature Steaks: Allowing the steaks to come to room temperature ensures even cooking.
-
Pat Dry the Meat: Moisture prevents a good sear, so ensure the steaks are well-dried.
-
Butter Basting: Basting the steaks with butter during the last minute adds richness and flavor.
-
Adjusting Spice Level: For a milder sauce, reduce the Cajun seasoning or add extra cream.
-
Don’t Overcook the Shrimp: Shrimp cooks quickly, so remove them as soon as they turn pink.
