Ingredients
For the Wings:
- 2 lbs chicken wings (drums and flats)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder (for extra crispiness)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
For the Honey Sriracha Sauce:
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup Sriracha sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (for thickening, optional)
For Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
- Lime wedges (for an extra zing!)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Wings
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) or preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This helps them get crispy.
- In a bowl, toss the wings with baking powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika until evenly coated.
Step 2: Cook the Wings
Oven Method:
4. Place a wire rack over a baking sheet and arrange the wings in a single layer.
5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Air Fryer Method:
6. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
7. Air fry for 20-22 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crispy.
Step 3: Make the Honey Sriracha Sauce
- In a small saucepan, combine honey, Sriracha, soy sauce, butter, vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger over medium heat.
- Stir and bring to a simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- If you want a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with water, then add it to the sauce and simmer until thickened.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 4: Toss & Serve
- Once the wings are done, place them in a large bowl.
- Pour the warm honey Sriracha sauce over the wings and toss until fully coated.
- Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and a squeeze of lime juice.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use baking powder, not baking soda! This helps create crispy skin without frying.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan or air fryer. Leave space for the wings to crisp up.
- Want them spicier? Add an extra tablespoon of Sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- For extra caramelization, broil the wings for the last 2-3 minutes in the oven.
