Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3036 chocolate kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Step 2: Shape and Roll the Cookies
6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
7. Roll each dough ball in granulated sugar to coat completely.

Step 3: Bake the Cookies
8. Place the sugar-coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are slightly cracked.

Step 4: Add the Chocolate Kisses
10. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.
11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough: If the dough feels too soft to roll, chill it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  • Don’t Overbake: The cookies should be soft and slightly underdone in the center when you remove them from the oven.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Try using peanut butter chocolate kisses or other seasonal varieties for a fun twist.
