Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef round steak: Sliced into serving-sized portions.
  • 1 cup beef broth: For the base of the gravy.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup: Adds creaminess to the gravy.
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix: For added depth and seasoning.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce: Enhances the flavor of the gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour: To thicken the gravy.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil: For browning the steak.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste: To season the meat.
  • Optional garnish: Fresh parsley, chopped.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Steak

  1. Season the round steak slices with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Sear the steak slices on both sides until browned. This step locks in the flavor.

Step 2: Assemble in the Slow Cooker

  1. Transfer the browned steak slices to the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and flour until smooth.

Step 3: Cook Low and Slow

  1. Pour the gravy mixture over the steak in the slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours, until the steak is tender.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Once done, stir the gravy and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.
  2. Serve the steak and gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
  3. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t Skip Browning: Searing the steak adds extra flavor, so don’t skip this step.
  • Thicker Gravy: If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and stir it into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Make It Ahead: This dish reheats well, so you can prepare it in advance for an easy dinner.
