Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz dried noodles: Spaghetti, lo mein, or fettuccine work great.
- 1 lb ground beef: For a rich, savory base.
- 1 tablespoon olive oil: For cooking the beef.
- 4 garlic cloves, minced: Adds a robust, aromatic flavor.
- 1/4 cup soy sauce: The salty, umami base of the sauce.
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce: For sweetness and depth.
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar: Balances the savory elements with a touch of sweetness.
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil: For that authentic Mongolian flavor.
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes: Optional, for a little heat.
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth: Helps create the sauce.
- 2 green onions, chopped: For garnish and a fresh pop of flavor.
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds: Optional, for garnish.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Noodles
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the noodles according to the package instructions.
- Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
- In a large skillet or wok, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it into crumbles, until browned and fully cooked.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Step 3: Make the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, red pepper flakes (if using), and water or beef broth.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet with the cooked beef and stir well.
Step 4: Combine and Serve
- Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly with the sauce.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- Choose the Right Noodles: Lo mein or spaghetti noodles hold the sauce beautifully.
- Don’t Overcook the Noodles: Slightly undercook them since they’ll finish cooking in the sauce.
- Make It Veggie-Packed: Add bell peppers, shredded carrots, or bok choy for extra nutrients.
- Adjust Sweetness: Reduce or increase the brown sugar based on your preference.
