Ingredients
For the Breakfast Rolls:
-
12 King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (sliced in half horizontally)
-
6 large eggs
-
1/4 cup milk
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
-
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
-
8 slices turkey sausage or beef bacon (cooked and crumbled)
-
1/4 cup green onions, chopped (optional)
-
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
For the Glaze (Optional):
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
-
1 tablespoon maple syrup
-
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
-
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Rolls
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them attached as a sheet.
-
Place the bottom half of the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 2: Cook the Eggs
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
-
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Pour the egg mixture into the skillet and cook, stirring gently, until soft scrambled. Remove from heat.
Step 3: Assemble the Rolls
-
Spread the scrambled eggs evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
-
Sprinkle the crumbled sausage or bacon evenly over the eggs.
-
Add a layer of shredded cheese.
-
Sprinkle green onions over the cheese, if using.
-
Place the top half of the rolls over the filling.
Step 4: Add the Glaze (Optional)
-
In a small bowl, combine melted butter, maple syrup, thyme, and garlic powder.
-
Brush the glaze evenly over the top of the rolls for extra flavor and a golden finish.
Step 5: Bake the Rolls
-
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
-
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and let the rolls rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
-
Slice the rolls into individual servings.
-
Serve warm with a side of fruit, a cup of coffee, or fresh orange juice for a complete breakfast.
Notes
-
Prevent Soggy Rolls: Cook the eggs until just set to avoid excess moisture.
-
Customize the Filling: Swap out the sausage or bacon for sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or diced bell peppers for a vegetarian option.
-
Cheese Variety: Try pepper jack for a spicy kick or mozzarella for a milder flavor.
-
Make-Ahead Option: Assemble the rolls the night before, cover, and refrigerate. In the morning, bake as directed.
