Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil)
- ¾ cup brown sugar (or honey/maple syrup)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (plus extra for topping)
- ½ cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Add the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
Step 3: Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined—do not overmix!
Step 4: Fold in the Walnuts & Chocolate Chips
Stir in the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips, reserving a few for topping.
Step 5: Bake the Banana Bread
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle extra walnuts and chocolate chips on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
