Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa for an intense flavor)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugars
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy.
Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, beating until fully incorporated.
Step 4: Combine the Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
Step 5: Mix the Wet and Dry Ingredients
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 6: Stir in the Dark Chocolate
- Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Step 7: Scoop and Shape
- Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded balls of dough (about 1-1.5 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Step 8: Bake
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Do not overbake if you want that chewy texture.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use Quality Dark Chocolate: The better the chocolate, the richer the flavor of your cookies.
- Chill the Dough (Optional): For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
- Don’t Overbake: Keep an eye on them; they’ll continue cooking on the baking sheet after you remove them from the oven.
- Customize with Mix-ins: Feel free to add nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra texture.
