Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa for an intense flavor)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugars

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy.

Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients

  1. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, beating until fully incorporated.

Step 4: Combine the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.

Step 5: Mix the Wet and Dry Ingredients

  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6: Stir in the Dark Chocolate

  1. Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Step 7: Scoop and Shape

  1. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded balls of dough (about 1-1.5 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8: Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Do not overbake if you want that chewy texture.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use Quality Dark Chocolate: The better the chocolate, the richer the flavor of your cookies.
  • Chill the Dough (Optional): For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Don’t Overbake: Keep an eye on them; they’ll continue cooking on the baking sheet after you remove them from the oven.
  • Customize with Mix-ins: Feel free to add nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra texture.
