Description

There’s something irresistible about tender shrimp bathed in a creamy garlic and paprika sauce. This Creamy Garlic-Paprika Shrimp Skillet is a quick, one-pan wonder that’s perfect for a busy weeknight dinner or a special meal to impress. Serve it over rice, pasta, or with a crusty piece of bread to soak up every drop of the luscious sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Sear the Shrimp

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until just pink. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Sauce

  1. Reduce heat to medium. In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  2. Stir in smoked paprika, sweet paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 10-15 seconds to release the flavors.

Step 3: Add Cream and Broth

  1. Pour in the heavy cream and chicken or vegetable broth, stirring well to combine. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 4: Thicken the Sauce (Optional)

  1. If the sauce seems thin, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 1-2 minutes until thickened.

Step 5: Return the Shrimp

  1. Add the cooked shrimp back to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes, just to heat through.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Don’t Overcook the Shrimp: Overcooked shrimp become rubbery. Cook just until they turn pink.
  • Adjust Spices: Feel free to add a pinch of cayenne for a spicy kick.
  • Make it Dairy-Free: Use coconut milk in place of heavy cream for a lighter, dairy-free version.
  • Prep in Advance: Have all your ingredients measured and ready to go for a seamless cooking process.
