Description

This Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake is the ultimate combination of flaky croissants, melty chocolate, and creamy custard baked to perfection. It’s an indulgent dish that’s perfect for brunch, dessert, or any special occasion. The best part? It’s surprisingly simple to make and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large croissants, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Optional Toppings:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh berries

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Croissants

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the croissant pieces in the baking dish and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top.

Step 2: Make the Custard

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined.

Step 3: Assemble the Bake

  1. Pour the custard mixture over the croissants and chocolate chips, ensuring all the pieces are soaked.
  2. Gently press the croissants down with a spatula to help them absorb the custard.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Let the dish sit for 10 minutes to absorb the custard.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Allow the bake to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or add whipped cream and berries for a finishing touch.

Notes

  • Use Day-Old Croissants: Slightly stale croissants absorb the custard better.
  • Mix Chocolates: Combine semi-sweet, milk, or dark chocolate chips for added flavor.
  • Make It Nutty: Add a handful of sliced almonds or chopped hazelnuts for crunch.
