Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil: For cooking.
- 2 chicken breasts (about 1 lb), thinly sliced: Or use chicken thighs for a juicier option.
- 3 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced: The star veggie of the dish.
- 1 medium carrot, julienned: Adds sweetness and color.
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced: Any color works, but red adds a sweet touch.
- 3 garlic cloves, minced: For that irresistible aroma.
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated: Adds warmth and depth.
- 3 green onions, chopped: For garnish.
For the Sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce: For savory umami flavor.
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce: Adds richness (or use hoisin sauce for a vegetarian alternative).
- 1 tablespoon honey: For a touch of sweetness.
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil: For nutty depth.
- ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional): For a spicy kick.
- 2 tablespoons water or chicken broth: To thin the sauce.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, and water. Add chili flakes if desired. Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Chicken
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
3. Add the sliced chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove from the wok and set aside.
Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables
4. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the wok. Sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
5. Add the cabbage, carrots, and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
Step 4: Combine and Serve
6. Return the cooked chicken to the wok and pour in the sauce. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the ingredients.
7. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve hot.
Notes
- Prep Everything First: Stir-frying happens fast, so have all ingredients ready to go before you start.
- Cut Evenly: Slice chicken and veggies uniformly for even cooking.
- High Heat is Key: Stir-frying requires high heat to sear the ingredients and lock in flavor.
- Customize the Veggies: Add mushrooms, snap peas, or broccoli for variety.
